「portraits」は、数年前のパンデミックをきっかけに始まったポートレイトシリーズである。

さまざまな規制が続くなか、私はこれまでにに撮影した家族や友人など、自分にとって身近な人々の肖像を、部屋の中に設置した不織布へプロジェクターで投影した。投影された像は不織布を透過し、どこまでも続くように空間全体へと広がっていく。その光景を前に、「一体どこまでをイメージと呼ぶことができるのだろう」と思いながら、そのの一部を掬い出すように再びモノクロフィルムで撮影し、暗室でフォトグラムを用いるなどして印画紙へ焼き付けた。

このような複雑な過程から、今ここに立ち現れる眼差しと自身の中にある記憶の揺らぎの軌跡を辿ろうとした。

 

このシリーズは、一つの作品として完結するものではなく、日々の営みのなかで他者との関係や自身の記憶を見つめ直す運動のようなものとして、現在もライフワークとして制作を続けている。

The series of works "portraits" are images which are created out of the repetition of my own gaze. The act of gazing is not only about looking at other people, but it is also about my experiences that I try to get in touch with. Last year many restrictions were imposed on people‘s lives due to the pandemic such as meeting people and going out. Faced with this situation I decided to use portraits of people close to me, like my family and friends, which I had taken earlier. I projected them into a room and took a photo of the projected images. Through this process I tried to be close to the images of people with whom it is difficult to meet at the moment. The act of trying to reconstruct memories by looking at the images again and again, to me is like a gradual letting go of the memories of the people in my mind. I get close to others by looking at them, and I create images by letting go of my memories.
